When and what kind of solid food did you start feeding you baby?

I’m just curious, my little boy will be 4 month old soon. He’s already had cereal in his bottle for awhile now, suggested by doctor, due to his reflux. I know this is something should ask the doctor but his next visit is in a week. But before making any final decision on when and what I will start him on I will consult his pediatrician first, of course.

Daughter one had baby oatmeal at six months. Daughter two had banana baby food at eight months. (She was premature)

You can start on almost anything. Cereal is a traditional 1st food in the US b/c (among other things) it was believed that babies should start on bland foods 1st. Today we know that is not the case.
My daughter started on sweet potatoes when she was 6 months old. Soon after she had carrots and prunes.

I started mine on cereal at 4 months, then at 6 I started fruits, then veggies, then meat at 9 months. Just remember to introduce new foods one at a time in case there is an allergy issue you will know exactly what caused it.

I started my baby on sweet peas at 5months 3 weeks. I didn’t want to start on cereal because it is considered nutritionally empty. So far she’s had carrots, sweet potato’s, squash, corn and green beans.

I’ll start with fruits next month.

    p.s. she hates carrots.

I would wait until 6 months to give your baby puried food…some moms give food sooner, but you never know the long term effects of giving them food too soon…the reason why you shouldn’t introduce foods too soon is because their stomachs may not be devoloped enough to handle them…causing them to later become allergic to whatever food it is…especially nuts and berries..

I would buy sweet potatoes, apples for example, cook them, purie them in a blender, put them in ice cube trays and freeze them…after a while, it got tiring…it really took a while to make all those frozen trays and then to sit there and defrost them in a pot over the stove when it was time to eat…it got really time consuming..it was smart as far as saving money, but really not that much…so now I just buy the Gerber foods with DHA in them….
