How to get a 16 month old to sleep through the night?

My son is 16 months old and he will not sleep through the night for anything. We have even put him in bed with us where he wakes up like 5 or 6 times a night. Nothing will work. We have let him cry it out and everything. We are exhausted and we have a new baby on the way…Dec. 29th. I don’t know what to do, but we have to figure something out before the new baby gets here. Any suggestions.

Have you tried getting his health checked? He may be in pain somewhere and may need a chiropractic adjustment (Dont freak out, it is perfectly safe for children. Both my kids have been seeing a chiro since birth and it helps alot of things) Or he could have sinus issues that may be causing him to wake up because he cant breathe properly. He could have sleep apnea. I suggest you get him checked by as many differrenf health practitioners as possible, doctor, natropath, homeopath, chiro, irridologist etc, whatever it takes to get him sleeping through because trust me you will need your sleep!

Try giving him a bath at night and lots of warm milk that way the bath sooths him and the milk will fill his belly and maybe keep him asleep. If that doesn’t work you may have to wear him out about an hour or so before he goes to sleep. Or make his naps shorter. He may just be a light sleeper in that case I have no idea you may have to call his pediatrician. They may be able to give you some pointers.

You don’t mention if he ever slept through the night, but I’m guessing not. Children need a consistent bedtime routine and reasonable expectations. Make sure he gets his bath, pjs with nighttime diaper, brushes his teeth, gets in bed, has a story read to him, hugs and kisses goodnight and assurances that you will see him in the morning. A couple of special stuffed animals and a flashlight might be good bed companions. Tell him that if he wakes, he may play quietly on his own, but not to wake you unless he really needs something–like he’s sick or has messed the bed. At first you may aim for him sleeping 4 to 6 hours straight as a reasonable expectation. Be sure to praise and show your pleasure when he starts sleeping longer and entertaining himself without waking others.

What time does he take his last nap in the day? If it is late make it earlier or take it away. what is he eating before bed maybe that could be it. Maybe try warring him out before bed time followed by a warm bath. Other than that I have know idea. Good luck.
