How to get 26 month old to sleep through the night?

My son is 26 months old and still doesn’t sleep through the night. He’s off the bottle and has been for over a year and we just give him a sippy cup of water at night. We try not to let him sleep in our room, but after waking up about every 30 to and hour every night we don’t have much choice. We try to let him cry it out, but he starts getting scared and screaming. Please let me know of any suggestions.

I’ve been there done that with my first son.
Now I have an 18 month old that I’m going to have to teach how to sleep through the night.
What worked for us was the Ferber method. I don’t remember the title of the book, but the author is Richard Ferber. You can look it up online to get the highlights of his method. It goes in babysteps and requires some willingness to persevere through some crying. Trust me when I say it gets easier and the reward is much needed sleep for you! Much success to you.

I suggest being in his room with him until he goes to sleep. Try leaving a night light and/or a radio on low so he does not feel alone. If he has a favourite soft toy or something, see if it comforts him if he takes it to bed with him. I’d try not letting him cry it out as this is obviously scary him more.

You let him rule the house. I bet he gets away with a lot of other things too, am i right??

You need to make him sleep in his own bed. Let him scream at night. If he gets up, put him back. It’s just something you will have to do.

You have coddled him too much in the past, and he has gotten used to that.

    Good luck.
    You will need it.
