What will happen to a new born if the umbilical cord will not be treated well?

Is there any chance for him to survive? If yes, how many days will he survive? And what should be done to save his life?

What do you mean by treated well? Like after they cut the unbillical cord? Well, in that case he could get an infection. You must keep it dry and clean.

What do you mean exactly? Animals and ancient people just chewed it off. I imagine their belly buttons were not cute, but it was not life threatening.

    eh?

I assume you mean the site where they have cut the cord?

I was advised to clean it with an alcotip – a pre-injection swab, which kills bacteria and dries the cord out so it falls off. If its not cleaned, I’d expect it to get infected and for the baby to need antibiotics. I am unsure whether it would be fatal or not, I think it would have to left infected for a sustantial amount of time so it would turn septic – this could be fatal.

The cord is cut, and dries up and heals on its own. If it should become infected then, as with any infection, the baby might die, or might survive, depending on the severity of the infection and the overall health/resistance of the baby.

If the cord is not cut, it eventually dries and separates from the placenta. (Some moms do this .. it’s called a “Lotus Birth.” I don’t quite get the point of it … but if it floats their boat, nobody is harmed.)

It could get infected, and if that’s not treated, then yeah, it’s possible the baby will die. But if the baby is being treated that badly in general, I don’t think it would be solely because of the umbilical cord.
