How many of each size diaper should I start buying for my soon to be niece?

My sister is having the family’s first grandchild, and I want to start stocking up on diapers. I don’t want to buy too many of one size though. So what should I get to start off? I know you change a diaper atleast twice and sometimes 6 times a day, but how long does a baby stay in one size?
Well, I’m trying to start buying now, so she won’t have to spend all her money while she’s not working. So should I buy two large packages of each? Will 2 packages make it the whole 6 months for an average baby, or are they not that big? Man I wish I had a baby… I love this. I’m going to wait till it’s right though

Probably around 6 lbs 10 oz. That’s about how big we all were. Of course this is the first grandkid though. I can’t wait till she comes out.

Don’t stockpile. Buy 2 packages of 0-6 months and see how it goes. Babies grow fast, and you don’t want several packages of unused diapers because they no longer fit.

actually you change a newborns diaper 10-12 times a day. They are only in newborn for about a week, so two packages will suffice. They are usually in size i for the rest of the first year (you can buy cases of this size.

Just buy lots of newborn sized diapers. I have a niece who is a month old and still wears newborns

My kid was only in newborn size for about a week. She was born almost 9 pounds. Any idea how big they are estimating this baby to be? It would help to know that.

I would buy at least one pack of preemie size diapers. You never know how big the baby will be when she gets here. 3 packs of each size should be safe or 1 regular pack and 1 jumbo pack. You can always take them back if they are the wrong size and exchange them. My kids stayed in size 1-2 diapers the longest. The length of time spent in each size depends on how fast she gains weight and noone can estimate that until she gets here. Congratulations!

you can buy whatever size you want the stores will exchange them if you need a different size i suggest that you go buy some newborns and some size ones and if you need to exchange them most stores do not even ask for your reciept they just exchange them

Most stores do exchange diapers for the correct size without much hassle but to be honest the best thing anyone did for me was give me gift certificates. That way if I really needed something other than diapers I could go ahead and get it. Also my baby has used different brands of diapers as he has grown (they all fit a little differently and absorb different amounts) so “mom” will probably have a favorite brand which could change over time.

Unless you have a big room to store all these diapers, why don’t you get a gift card, like Wal-Mart or K-Mart or something, and start putting money on it. Every time you go to that store just put more money on it. You will have all these diapers stored up and you may be taking them back at least once a week. Too much work. The baby may remain small or she may gain a lot of weight. By giving a card the mommy can just get what she needs. There will be wipes, pacifiers, powder, lotion, soap, baby washing detergent, Tylenol, gas medicine. The list is endless. Congratulations to your whole family. We just had our first grandchild 8 months ago and the second is on its way. I know exactly how you feel.

I’m not sure why but this weblog is loading incredibly slow for me. Is anyone else having this problem or is it a issue on my end?
