What are the best bottles to use with newborns?

I’m putting together my baby registry and I was just wondering what bottles are best for newborns? I’m a first time mommy so any input would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Thanks for all your answers. I updated my registry with some of your suggestions.

The only thing my boys would take was playtex dropins and avent bottles. Everything else I tried they just pushed away and screamed. Most of the babies in my family seem to prefer those two types of bottles only.

The playtex ventaire with a slow flow nipple definitely. They significantly reduce the amount of air swallowed.

playtex ventaire….i used em with both my kids …just change the nipple with the pace of flow as the child grows

We used Avent. I loved ’em (until they started to leak) BUT I posted a question and resolved the leaking issue. So now I love them again!

Id get BPA free bottles. Born Free, Gerber. Avent is getting BPA free bottles not sure if they are out yet. And Playtex you put the liners in but the generic liners have BPA so you have to get the playtex liners with those. I use gerber. I had Playtex for the pushing the air out and I feel the Gerber works just as good.
My first I went all out and got Dr Brown (one of the worst with BPA in the bottles) and they were a waste of money! Didnt do crap. My pedi agrees they are a gimic. (SP)
    Good luck

We currently have Avent and we HATE them. They leak a lot. But we make do because we can’t really afford to go out and buy more. We just have to mess with the bottles to get them to not leak.

We have also used Evenflo CLASSIC. The straight ones. I didn’t like the curved ones because they leaked. But the Classic ones were great! We only had one though.

I would get a variety of bottles if you can. Babies are fussy creatures and will use only what they like. My daughter likes the Playtex Ventaire Wide bottles and Avent bottles. Then after about a week or so after the birth or starting to use bottles, hopefully you will have a giftcard or two to go out and purchase the bottle of choice.

My daughter will only take Playtex Drop-ins with the natural Latch nipple (it comes with the bottles for the most part). She is breastfed and I conveniently read somewhere recently that they are one of the best nipples for breastfed babies. They give the wide comfort of something pushing on their face, and are soft enough to suck easily and latch on to. My baby will sometimes take the Soothie bottles but not always. They hang around in case we have no other options but that almost never happens.

I actually love the Mam bottles – they are wonderful. They are BPA free – awesome ventilation system that reduces gas in newborns. Less bubbles/ gas is the #1 concern in newborns, and Mam does an awesome job controlling it. The downside – there are a lot of parts so some people have trouble cleaning/ reassembling them. I assure you, it’s not a problem once you figure them out.

I know I got a free one – and the link for the free trial is still there. Check them out, give it a try and see what you think.

Playtex drop-ins are also highly recommended, although I never liked them. They also have a free trial bottle offer – it can’t hurt to get those and see what you think.

I will have to agree with other posters about getting a few different types, I’d say we had to try 4 or 5 different types before we found one my daughter really likes, we found the Dr. Browns were really nice, they have some sort of vent tube that helps keep our daughter from swallowing a lot of air. We tried some sort of playtex bottle that both ends screwed off, etc, and we had such a hard time with leakage and airflow that we gave them to my wife’s cousin.

So if this is for a regitery put down a couple of different types of bottles for the baby to try out.

My baby was very fussy when it cam to his bottles. Are you planning on breast feeding or formula feeding or both? If you plan to both breast and bottle I recommend a wide mouth silicone nipple such as Avent or playtex drop-ins or playtex wide mouth Vent-air. If you formula feed it might be a tricky situation when it comes to bottles. babies are picky. You might have to get a few different ones and try which one he/she likes better.

Playtex VentAir hands down! If you are going to breast feed, get the wide-nipple bottles, but if not, the regular nipples are great too. Like mentioned above, make sure you get the “slow” flow nipples.
My son is 2 now, but we tried every single brand of bottles from Dr. Brown’s, Avent, Mam, Drop Ins, CVS Brand—everything. VentAir is the BEST!!!

I really like Dr. browns natural flow. the bottles are glass and the nipples come in many different sizes for the different ages of baby.

With my first son, we used the evenflo bottles with the clear nipples, and he liked them just fine! I did, too! I actually went out and bought some for this baby we’re about to have. I hope he likes them!! All babies are different, though. These bottles never gave me problems, and I mean, they are bottles, and they work. Plus, I like the colors. My son hated those brown nipples, for some reason. It’s probably because he was used to the other ones.

I say it depends if you are going to breastfeed. If so you would want one that simulates the breast like the First Year Breast Flow bottles. Also they prefer the wider neck bottles versus standard. Playtex also has a nurser brand that mine takes. At first my breast feed baby only took the breastflow bottles but now she uses the playtex kind. Also the Playtex are BPA free and the milk heats up quickly because of the thin drop ins.

i have used all types of bottles and i like MAMS best they have a wide mouth they hold 9 ozs without spilling over and they are great for preventing gas. and they are BPA free and inexpensive

    Anything without BPA.

I am using glass bottles by Born Free. They don’t have those bad chemicals in them. If you don’t want to do glass, then stick with anything BPA-free. I will be using Born Free plastic bottles, but alot of the companies are making BPA-free bottles.

The answer is “whatever works best for you and your newborn”, everyone has an opinion, and most of us had to go through multiple bottles/nipples before finding ones that worked well for our little ones.

For example, my husband and I wanted to go wth BPA free bottles for our infant son. We started with Medela just affixing the nipples to the small plastic freezer storage containers (which hold about 2.5 oz). We then moved on to Green to Grow, but our son had horrible gas (he still has some gas!) and couldn’t get the hang of the nipples. We eventually tried Born Free, but our son hated the nipples. So now we are using Born Free bottles with Mam nipples…what a crazy bottle finding adventure it has been!!
