To make it more of a gift, how about gift vouchers to the movies, that way you can decide when to go. Also, I don’t know what is available in your area. Im in Australia so it might have a different name, but we have goldclass cinemas, where you get to sit back in a lounge chair and order drinks from the bar, it is a more intimate setting and you can get gift voucher tickets. Im sure there would be something to the equivalent wherever you are.
