How long after giving birth does your period normally start?

I had my baby thanksgiving weekend and I nursed until about 3 weeks ago. I have not had my period yet how long normally after giving birth and nursing should my period start?

    My doctor told me the longest period of time was six months. But it usually happens faster than that. I had mine exactly a month later..but every woman is different.

    It’s acutally 6 weeks. Unless you are nursing than it takes longer.

    Every one is different, especially if you breastfeed. Some women don’t have a period for months if the breastfeed and some get them back within a month. You will just have to be patient and wait. Make sure you take precautions if you don’t want to get pregnant again because you never know when you are ovulating.

    I nursed exclusively for the first 6 months and I didn’t get my first period until 7 months after I had my son.

    I have known women that have not started their period as long as they were breastfeeding, but not always a guarantee. It is different for everyone. They usually use 6 weeks as the starting point, but some start earlier and some later. Like I said nursing tends to prolong it. I started at 6 weeks.
