i guess you could, because it sounds perfect for what you’re planning, with just a couple of people. But it is more common to have a huge blowout for the first year. Whatever you choose, be sure to make your daughter feels special! Tell here happy birthday for me!

Go for it! We did the exact same thing 6 months ago for our daughter’s one year old birthday, for a number of reasons. We had mostly adults and preferred to put the money we DID have into something that would mean more to her (her first bank account).
So, we had a backyard party, with balloons and streamers, plastic tablecloths, and pin the tail on the donkey! We also played musical chairs and karaoke. Instead of favor bags, I bought actual gifts for the few children that were there, and gave it to them as their game prize (we made sure each child won a game). The adults had fun helping the children “win”, but they also joined in playing musical chairs, 3-legged relays, and playing cards. We had a potluck and individual cupcakes and ice cream cups to simplify things. We bought her a small, personal cake so that she could blow out the candle (which she was too irritated to do). She opened gifts then everyone left.
It came down to the family getting together and having a good time with each other.
