What are the chances of getting pregnant at the age of 38? Is that too old?

My husband and I have 2 boys already but we really want to try for another one. We have been trying since June and every month, nothing. What can we do to increase our chances?

My mom had her last unplanned baby when she was 39, and had her when she was fourty. She is a beautiful blessing. They say you are more at high risk, and actually told my mom with her last three kids that they were down syndrome, they weren’t. God bless.

That’s not too old at all. As long as you haven’t gone through menopause, you can still become pregnant. I’d suggest both of you go in for a physical to make sure everything is working well and then just keep trying. You’ve only been trying for 3-4 months and that really isn’t long at all. Many people try for a year before getting pregnant! Getting an ovulation test kit can increase your chances. Try having no sex until the test says you’re ovulating. Send the kids to a relative’s or friend’s house for the next few days and get down to trying then. Good luck!

Keep trying. Took me 10 months and I am 32. They say after 6 months if over 35 talk to the doctor about fertility options. Yes, it is harder to get pregnant at 38 and you may no longer be able to without help. If you do, you will be a “high risk pregnancy” do to age, and your child has a very significant risk of genetic defects.
