How to ask someone to be Valentine’s date?

Well, actually, it’s a lot more complicated than that. How can you tell if a guy wants to be your valentine’s date? Does it vary from different types of guys?
Since I’m still in middle school love is quite ‘overused’, but I just want to be his valentine’s. It sounds pretty cheesy, I know. And when you were in middle school did you ever have a valentine’s date? Or should I just wait for me to grow up and decide then.
