How do I decorate my backyard for a kids water party?

The theme is “garden,” so flowers and bugs. I have a large backyard with several ornamental pears. The kids are mainly preschool age. Do I just attach indoor decorations to the fence and hang things from trees? Not sure what to do, but I want it to look special.

    I love the garden theme.

For my daughter we used lots of bright colored decorations, although we had an actvity party with trampoline etc.

I had xams tree lights up hanging from our trees. I hung up bunches or bright colored balloons all over the fence, trees, trampoline etc. Also streamers were hung where I could. Some of the balloons had faces painted on them, that could be flowers and bugs.

We made bunting and hung that up from tree to fence and on to the house. Also we borrowed some flags from a neighbor to hang up.

We set out lots of toy animals for effect, plus colorful towels. Meybe you can get lots of flowers, bugs, worms, spiders etc.

On the fence we hung up pictures printed from the internet of TV characters. For your perhaps lots of charcaters from the film Bugs Life..

Perhaps you could have a sandpit sand, which you can decorate with lots of bugs. Maybe you can hide ‘treasure’ in the sandpit as part of a treasure hunt.

The table too can be very colorful with a blue table cover and colorful plates, food and decoration. A colorful large bug could be the centerpiece.

I hope this gives at least some ideas that can help you.

    Good luck!

I love the garden theme. Anything you do is going to be special so don’t stress to much about that. For the decorations you could make a sun, birds, and bugs out of cardboard and have them hanging from the trees along with pinecone birdfeeders you can make with your daughter. I would take flower garland and hang it along the fence. Make garden markers from paper and a dole rod place them by your real flowers. For the tables I would have your daughter help you make flowers from constriction paper and attach a green pipe cleaner to it and then staple the pipe cleaner to the inside of a paper or plastic cup. Rip up green paper and put it in the cup for the grass. To finish them off glue a picture of your daughters face on the center of the flower and sit them in the middle of the tables. Then take fake flowers and take the petals off and sprinkle them on the table as well. For the food table I would have an empty flower pot that your child painted ahead or time for the center piece with a seed packet, toy rake, gloves, and toy hoe. I would also take gummy worms and wrap them in plastic wrap and place them all over the table. You could also have a sprinkler on somewhere in the yard watering the garden and the kids could also run through it.
